Jimmy’s Barbershop Opens in Downtown Allentown
ALLENTOWN, PA (October 15, 2015) – An old-fashioned hot shave, haircut and style is now a reality for businessmen in downtown Center City Allentown.
And, the interior of the new 800 square foot shop at 619 Hamilton Street, created by Cityline Construction, Allentown, is winning many a rave review.
The interior melds vintage elements with a sleek modern industrial look plus creature comforts to make Jimmy’s a new destination. Cityline, landlord of the property, gutted and added five windows to the retail location, cutting into the masonry wall and brightening the once cave-like space.
Jimmy and Rose Moyer, of Jimmy’s Barbershop West End Allentown fame, are at the helm, and the interior, says Jimmy, has been an inspiring collaboration
The new windows also give view to the recently unveiled Arts Walk. Inside, the industrial theme is accented with exposed brick walls, a rail wood porcelain tile floor
and a custom tin ceiling. Exposed pipe and spiral stainless duct work continue the genre.
Repurposed elements serve key roles here. A double sided movie theater Exit sign, salvaged from the old Allentown Strand Theater, has been rewired to meet today’s safety standards. Also repurposed are the stage lights that illuminate each barberstation, while antique leather barber chairs and standard barber’s pole accent the new digs. Large stainless steel tool cases are utilized instead of a traditional barber stations.
A large screen TV, and other manly creature comforts, such as newly reupholstered, vintage high back booth seating, welcomes business clients.
“We are excited about the growth in the city district, and adding new barber services to City Center brings a positive spin to the overall mix of retail base. We are appreciative and pleased to have such proven operators as tenants in one of our buildings,” says Tom Williams Jr., Real Estate Director, Cityline Construction
“Barbers are a dying breed. The old fashioned barber shop, where business men gathered not only for a trim and a shave, but to discuss the matters and opinions of the day, are becoming increasingly scarce across the country,” says Jimmy, who has been barbering and styling hair since he was 21 when he left the Navy.
Among Jim’s regular clients are Mayor Ed Pawlowski, and Congressman Charlie Dent.
